Brian Harper should be seriously considered for the Chicago Cubs Manager job.
1. He has years of experience managing at the minor league level for the Cubs. He knows the Cubs young talent and has learned how to manage a game and a team. Recognizing and handling young players is an essential skill for a manager.
2. He has been a catcher on a World Series chaampionship team. He knows how to win.
3. Much of managing is handling pitchers. As a catcher and a minor league manager, he knows how to do that. He knows pitching talent and pitching strategies.
4. Along with teammate Ron Washington, Harper played for Tom Kelly. He has learned to manage from a talented mentor and teacher.
5. Harper has learned the Manager’s craft.
